Why Salt?

  • It is a natural substance found in the seas and in underground deposits
  • It contains many essential elements like calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, selenium, copper, and chloride, among others, that are lacking in our soil and foods
  • It is naturally antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and super absorbent
  • It helps clear inflammation and congestion, which is often associated with snoring, sinus infections and other common ailments

HISTORY

Did you know that the benefits of salt therapy date all the way back to 1839? In 1839, Doctor Feliks Boczkowski, a Polish physician, noticed that miners from the local salt mines in Wieliczka, Poland all looked noticeably younger and healthier than other townspeople. He also observed the workers rarely suffered from respiratory issues. These two factors alone were unusual considering workers in most other types of mines had poor health in general. He realized that the miners, by crushing, grinding, and chiseling the salt rocks and walls, produced and inhaled micro-sized particles that dispersed into the air of the caves. Given that salt provides anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, the doctor concluded this to be the reason for their better health.

As a result of his observations, Dr. Boczkowski created the first health resort facility at the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Soon others throughout Eastern Europe started opening similar health resorts in formerly salt-mined caverns.

Since not all people had days to spend in salt caves to receive the full benefits, Russian doctors and scientists, in 1976, created the first halogenerator, a machine that replicated the conditions in the salt mines, by slicing and grinding micro thin layers of salt and dispersing it into the air. The machine we use in our salt caves is very close to the original one created in Russia many years ago.

How Does it Work?

The dry salt is placed into a halogenerator that grinds it into micro-sized particles. These particles are dispersed into the air in a closed environment, like our salt cave. This process mimics the natural salt caves found in Europe. A typical session lasts 45 minutes and is equivalent to spending three days on the beach.

The particles of dry sodium chloride (salt) are inhaled into the respiratory tract where it absorbs bacteria, allergens, toxins, and other foreign substances. It also helps reduce inflammation by loosening and clearing out the ‘bad stuff.’ The large particles that land on the skin also absorb bacterial and foreign substances. In addition to the cleansing affect, it restores pH levels and helps get rid of the dead skin. Smaller particles can reach below the skin and help maintain moisture.
